Batur Temple or Ulun Danu Temple was first founded in the 17th century. This temple is dedicated to the god Vishnu and to the lake goddess Dewi Danu. Lake Batur, the largest lake in Bali, is considered the most important on the island of Bali as the main water source for agricultural activities in Bali.
The definition of Pura Ulun Danu describes the importance of water for the prosperity of the residents of Batur village and for the entire Hindu community in Bali, especially in irrigating rice fields on the island of Bali.Ulun Danu Batur Temple is mentioned several times in several ancient texts as one of the “sad khayangan”
And Mengening Temple has an interesting history to learn. This temple is an ancient site left over from the reign of King Marakata in 1022 AD. Mengening Temple was discovered by a Willem Frederik Stutterheim in 1925 – 1927.
In 1980, historian A.J Bernet Kempers noted that Pura Mengening was a clear spring under a large tree. The spring water is used to clean and bathe the keris. This is also the origin of the name “mengening” which means “clear water”
